Ranging from undergraduate placements through to post registration training, our well-established preceptorship programme is overseen by the NMAHP team and provides newly qualified staff with the skills, support and confidence to become competent and effective practitioners.

Postgraduate Education

The Education Academy’s Postgraduate & Preceptorship team is dedicated to supporting and enhancing the careers of nurses, midwives,  allied health professionals and healthcare scientists. Our comprehensive programmes are designed to build confidence, integrate new professionals into clinical areas, and provide robust educational support. Our Key Programmes

Preceptorship Programme

The Preceptorship Programme is tailored to help integrate newly qualified professionals into their clinical areas, boosting their confidence and providing essential support.

Duration: 12 months, with sessions at months 1, 2, 3, 6, 9, and 12
Eligibility: nurses, midwives, nurse associates, allied health professionals, and healthcare scientists who are:
– Newly qualified up to 12 months in practice
– Internationally hired who have joined the UK register
– Returning to practice with updated UK registration

Preceptor Development Workshop:
A national workshop for preceptors with 12 months of post-registration experience in the same clinical area as the preceptee, offering 12 hours of protected time each year to attend workshops, forums, and conduct one-to-one meetings with the preceptee.

Venepuncture & Cannulation
This programme requires the completion of two e-learning modules:

– Venepuncture e-learning
– Cannulation e-learning
Duration: 3-hour face-to-face practical session

Nursing OSCE
This programme is designed for Barts Health’s internationally hired nurses and internal candidates to prepare for the Nursing OSCE and register in the NMC.

Specialism Programmes

Specialisms include:

– Older People Nursing
– Surgical Nursing
– Aspiring Clinical Leadership Programme (for nurses, midwives and AHPS)

Our specialism programmes offer targeted education to help you excel in your field. These courses are accredited in partnership with Middlesex University and can contribute credits towards:

– MSc Professional Practice
– MSc Advanced Nursing Practice
– MSc Nursing Studies

The nursing programme is split into two phases. Phase one focuses on confidence and competence, and includes communication skills, safeguarding, patient safety, responsibilities for improvement as well as other core competencies. Phase two focuses on leadership and managerial skills and you’ll undertake the NHS Leadership Academy Edward Jenner Leadership programme.
