Accessibility & Supporting Learners

Supporting Inclusive Learning at Barts Health’s Education Academy

At Barts Health’s Education Academy, we are dedicated to creating an environment where every learner can thrive. As one of the largest healthcare providers in Europe, we understand the importance of supporting diverse needs and ensuring that everyone has access to training and development opportunities that will help them reach their full potential. We are committed to fostering a culture of inclusivity, equity, and continuous improvement.

Our Commitment to Inclusive Education

At the core of our approach is a commitment to inclusivity. We believe that all learners, regardless of ability, should have access to an enriching educational experience. To achieve this, we offer a variety of support services and accommodations to ensure that everyone has the tools and resources they need to succeed.

  • Accessible Learning Environments: Our training facilities are designed with accessibility in mind. We offer physically accessible rooms, assistive technology, and sensory-friendly options where available.
  • Flexible Learning Options: We understand that everyone learns differently. Our trainers use multiple teaching methods, flexible delivery options, and individualized support plans to cater to each learner’s unique needs.
  • Collaboration and Planning: Every learner can engage with trainers to establish a tailored support plan that includes reasonable adjustments, such as extended deadlines, access to recorded sessions, or customized learning materials. We work together to find the best solutions for each learner.

How We Support Our Learners

Our inclusive education services include:

  • Pre-Session Adjustments: Access to course materials in advance, large-print documents, and the option to request specific seating arrangements.
  • In-Session Support: Breaks during sessions, visual aids, pacing adjustments, and a supportive approach that encourages open communication with trainers.
  • Additional Resources: Access to the Knowledge & Library Services, assistive technology guidance, and support in managing assignments.

Creating a Culture of Support

We are committed to creating an environment where all learners feel valued and supported. Our trainers receive ongoing training in neurodiversity and physical accessibility to ensure they are equipped to support every student. Barts Health’s BartsAbility initiative also ensures that staff and students with disabilities have the support they need to succeed, in line with the Equality Act 2010.
