The Education Academy
Simulation and Clinical Skills
Barts Health Simulation and Clinical Skills department offers a comprehensive directory of training courses, available to both Trust and external staff. The service is continuously evolving to meet the needs of the largest and one of the most diverse health providers in the country.
Training offered ranges from part task trainers, which enables health care providers to learn and practice a specific clinical skill using a training device which replicates that particular body part, haptic facilities which provide the user with detailed sensory feedback during practice, and full immersion training, using high fidelity manikins.
Simulation and clinical skills training is delivered both within purpose-built centres at Newham University Hospital, The Royal London Hospital and Whipps Cross University Hospital; and as part of a comprehensive in-situ programme throughout our hospitals.
FAQ’s
How can I get involved in simulation and clinical skills teaching?
We welcome offers of teaching and have several opportunities to develop and train new faculty. Talk to the relevant Centre Lead or administrator on how to get involved.
I want to develop in situ simulation training in my own clinical area – can you help?
Training using simulation in the clinical area, known as distributive or in-situ simulation, enables teams who work together to train together in their actual place of work and test the environment for safety and suitability.
How can I join the team?
We support a number of Education and Simulation Fellowship posts, linked to specific specialities or areas of educational responsibility.
